The Future of AVP?
Jul 25, 2010 - 1:31 PM - by L3gacy

The release of patch 5 brought new life for the game and gave gamers a reason to re-visit Rebellion's newest Aliens vs Predator title. While the changes made to the game were much needed Rebellion left a few wants to be desired. Never the less it was off to a good start and the game got its pulse back. THEN we got the post. The post that told us support for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 had been cut! When asked about PC support they said they weren’t at liberty to discuss it at this time. Naturally, opinions started to fly around and people started to play other games again. Some AVP community sites pulled AVP Game support and others pulled their AVP Tournaments and shutdown all together.

I'm not sure what the future holds for us and until we get word from Rebellion it's a guessing game. So until I read a post that says PC support has been cut I'm going to assume they will continue PC support. If that's the case then these are things I would like to see SEGA/Rebellion/Fox do from a marketing position. Take advantage of the days when Steam has big deals. Offer 10 or 20% off the game, offer good deals on the two map packs if they buy them together or have one and not the other. There is nothing worse than to have a packed server and a DLC map comes up in the rotation and then all you see is a sea of Spam saying "Missing Content" and... [Read More]

AvP3 Will No Longer Be Updated on Consoles
Jul 14, 2010 - 1:19 PM - by Ambrosiia

Per the Sega Community Manager on the Sega forums:

Quote:
I've just received a mail this AM regarding patches for the console versions of AVP and I regret to inform everyone that these have sadly been scrapped.

I had previously made a claim that these were coming and at the time, this was very much on the table. For the console community, I apologize, as I know there are many features and updates that you'd like to see. I'll keep fighting internally for this to happen, but until I hear otherwise, there will not be a console patch for either Xbox or PS3.
EDIT:: Clumsyorchid [Sega's Community Manager] has responded to the outrage and has suggested this idea to let our voices be heard:

I feel for you all in this, I do, so let's turn it into something productive! Gather the AVP community, post in

New "Predators" Action Figures
Jul 09, 2010 - 1:30 PM - by Ambrosiia

Peep the above first look at the BERSERKER PREDATOR collectible figure from the new Predators currently showing in cinemas now. Hot Toys has been going for the toy-jugular with their releases, and this is one fine example of their awesomeness! And while I can't say much about the movie itself (still considering watching it tho), it's products like this that makes it ll good (but of course as a toys-blog, I am biased LOL). ~ Stay tuned for more reveals (will be updated in this post).

FYI: This will be the second 1/6-Predator from Hot Toys, after the Toy-Fairs Exclusive Guardian Predator.

New Aliens vs. Predator DLC Map Pack Goes on a Bughunt
Jun 30, 2010 - 2:13 PM - by Ambrosiia

Aliens vs. Predator will pick up four all-new battlegrounds this July in a second paid downloadable content map pack, publisher Sega has announced, titled 'Bughunt.'

Due out on July 7 at $6.99 (560 Microsoft Points) for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Bughunt pack contains two new maps for AvP's standard multiplayer modes then another two for the 'Survival' mode. Sega boasts that "for the first time, these maps will include environmental hazards and new weather effects."

If you don't own AvP but you do have a DirectX 11 graphics card and fancy seeing a swarming horde of xenomorphs, check out the spiffy AvP DX11 benchmark test Source

AVP PC Patch 5 Provisional Release Notes
Jun 27, 2010 - 11:43 PM - by Ambrosiia

The following notes are the provisional release details of PC patch 5. This is currently scheduled for release early next week (28th June onwards) assuming QA approval.

Please note that once Patch 5 goes live, all dedicated servers will need to update to the new version before they can be played on.

New Features
• Enabled XP gain, leaderboard updates and associated achievements and skin unlocks for non-ranked games as well as Ranked Matches. Now the differences between ranked and unranked games is that in Ranked Matches, skill-based matchmaking, team balancing and other Ranked Match associated rules are enforced and in Player matches they are not. You are now unable to have a game that does not update the leaderboards, or award XP.
• Major overhaul of low-level networking code for player-hosted (i.e. not Dedicated Server) games in order to improve connection stability and pings.

Bug Fixes
• Prevented runaway memory consumption under D3D11 if an FMV is playing when you lock (ctrl-alt-del - "lock computer") your machine with an NVIDIA card.
• Several "groups" issues have been fixed, including a reported issue with Group leaders causing group members to disconnect from Games if they leave and then join another Server.
• The spawning system has been tweaked, so that... [Read More]

Bladeghost (alias Scythewraith) may be a modest web developer, but he's a mod maker extraordinaire. And he's at it again. Stroll over to his site to try out his new level for the Predator single player campaign for AvP Classic.

You can also check out his Pyramid map based on the first AvP movie and brought over to AvP Classic from the AvP 2 mod Under a Hunter's Moon.
